The Importance of Giving Dawah to Muslims

What is Dawah? Dawah is the act or actions that invite people to embrace Islam. We often think about giving Dawah to only non-Muslims but that’s not the case. Giving Dawah to Muslims is just as important. Muslims have just as many questions and may sometimes need just as much guidance in order to learn about Islam and embrace it. Why do we get defensive when a Muslim has doubts or questions? Just because we were born Muslim doesn’t mean we know everything about Islam. Dawah Mentor, Nadeem Ashraf, says that, “When Muslims ask questions it’s actually a beautiful thing. In this day and age, we should be prepared for questions and we have the answers for them”.

The dilemma of this generation is the fact that we’re so quick to say we do things just because it’s obligatory without truly understanding the meaning behind it and the holy text behind those commands. When Muslim youth come to us with questions we brush them off and tell them, “We pray because it’s obligatory” and tend to react in a negative way. Why do we feel as if reacting in a negative way will inspire our youth to embrace Islam. If anything our ignorance will only put them off Islam. In order to understand why we do things such as prayer, giving zakat, pilgrimage and so forth, we need to understand the foundation of Islam. In order to take full advantage of prayer we need to understand why we pray. Why should we be grateful to Allah (swt)? Once we understand this then we will naturally be inclined to accomplish obligatory and sunnah prayers.
