Choosing what to learn

I’ve been following a few tech startups with a friend, and our conversations showed me how different investing in technology can be from buying established companies. Understanding the product, competition, founders and future risks seems just as important as the financial side. If someone wanted to become better at this, what skills does a technology investor need to prioritize first?
