My interest to work in this field stems back in 2005 Kashmir Earthquake. While spending our nights in an open area homelessly, attending several funerals, first time I saw psychology at work, when I observed mental health counselling professional visited Kashmir post-earthquake 2005 to taper down the emotional impact it had on people’s lives. Conducting my research on studying impact of trauma has been an insightful experience of studying the cognitive processes of the survivors in the aftermath of a trauma. After the suicide of a 17 years old student in my village because of not getting good grades has directed my energies to work in the field of Education in Kashmir. Delivering counseling services in the schools and various field projects like trauma and its management, reviewing the education policy draft of AJK and delivering trainings as a Master Trainer on Early Childhood Education etc. have provided me with the real picture of the factors impeding individuals’ developmental milestones thus hindering our personal growth. Besides, courses from UNESCO and affiliation with Psyche & the MindXperts as Mental Health Activist has helped me to grow my both soft and hard skills.
