What is a good age to introduce Quran memorization for our children?
Start young and lead by example. Small things like praying in front of your children, sounding the adhan and having a small prayer corner make a huge difference.
According to the Islamic studies and the prophet’s muhammad (PBUH) practices, the age of discretion is 7.During the seventh year, the child is prepared to memorize the Quran easily. It is said “learning something in childhood is like engraving a stone”or “Early start, grow smart”.Moreover, when a child start memorizing at this age he will memorize the whole Quran at the age of 14 or 15 years old .By memorizing the Quran the child will acquire Arabic language fast,be a wise skillful kid acting with care and foresight.
The best age is 7, as Arwa Alhussain has mentioned. But if you start a personal work with a kid of 2 years old that can work like I do with my daughter at the time of sleep we read the dua of sleeping and she repeats with me, we can teach like such many thing to start a bond with the Quran and Islam and Allah. Learning Quran comes later once the kids become 7 is the best age.
Starting as early as 1 year old is possible. This could be achieved by playing the Quran audio every day. Since children have a cognitive sense of learning very fast from whatever they hear and see around them...
I think this will prepare them more for what is expected from them by age 7.
The younger the age, the better. At a young age, your mind is fresh and your capacity to memorize things is high. I myself memorized the whole Quran when I was in seventh grade. I even don't remember how I memorized the Quran or how difficult it was. Another benefit of memorizing the Quran at a young age is that you don't forget it easily if you don't do the revision. So start young and you will find it very easy.
