These is still a stigma around seeking help for mental health issues. Although in recent times there is increased awareness around mental health and wellness, in more traditional communities people are still wary of broaching this subject. What do you think?

As salamu alaikum. There is a lot of stigma to this day. As well some believe that there is no such thing as mental health issues and it must be a possession. When the person doesn't get better after Islamic intervention, it is not likely they will seek professional help for mental health. There is shame and embarrassment associated with mental health issues in the Muslim community and more awareness and education is still needed.

There is a lack of awareness around mental health in general from what I have seen and understood within my community. With physical health there is a visibility factor which is absent with mental health, what isn't seen is pushed under the carpet and suffered in silence, then comes the thinking around spending on what matters, mental health expenditure is treated like a luxury, rather than a necessity almost always resulting in reaching out for DIY quick-fix solutions that do not serve in the long run.

Its a sign of stigma in our society to talk about mental health.
